I Seek Happiness but I Want Serenity

If asked “What do you want most in the world?” most people will answer, “I want to be happy.” I wonder if that answer is accurate. Think about it; happiness is an emotion, and like all other emotions, it’s temporary. Sometimes fleeting. No one is sad, angry, or happy all the time. I wonder if what people really desire is serenity. Serenity is a state of being, the state where no matter how life feels, I can know “I will be ok.” It brings a sense of comfort, hope, and freedom. I think we seek happiness, intending to find serenity. They’re very different but easy to confuse.
